Men’s over 30 Hockey Rules

1. Roster – Any team using illegal players (players not on roster) will automatically forfeit game. Coaches or captains will serve a one game suspension for first time. If a team uses illegal players again – game will be forfeited and committee will decide on suspension. If illegal players are used during playoffs series, that team will forfeit the series.

2. Roster Part II – Any player under 30 years old will not be permitted to play, unless Okayed by committee or that player played during the 1st season. Roster is closed after 3rd week (21 days) of the season. Any player replaced up to 3rd week of season must be out for the remainder of the season. Player must be Okayed by league to be eligible to play. Players may only be added due to injury or a player quits the team.

3. Eligible for playoffs – A player must play a minimum of 40% of the games to be eligible for playoffs. Injured players exempt – but they must notify league committee – with proof of injury.

Note: Suspended games do not count as games played


4. Rescheduling of games - if for any reason a team and its captain are aware that a scheduled game cannot be played, they must notify the captain of the team that they need to reschedule within 7 days.

IE: team A needs to reschedule with team C and they play on Sunday the 7th. Before team A leaves the rinks on Sunday the 1st, team A and C must come to an agreement when to reschedule. If there is a problem the commissioner will be asked to intervene.

5. Any team that forfeits a game will be fined $80.00 for that game. covers expense to pay ref's and scorekeeper

6. Banned – Ejection from League – Any player ejected from the league for the season is not permitted to play or return to the league for life.

7. Equipment – All equipment is optional, except a regulation stick. NO BASEBALL CAPS MAY BE WORN.

a. All players must wear gloves of some kind. You will not be permitted to play with out them.

8. Game Times – The games will consist of three – eighteen minute periods with a running clock in place. Clock stops on goals (to log score), penalties, during power play and injuries, and within last two minutes of 3rd period if games are within two goals.

9. Starting on Time – If a team is short of players when a game is scheduled to start, they may start games with a minimum of six players. If they choose to take a ten minute grace period it will result in starting the game shorthanded with a two minute delay of game penalty. If team does not have a minimum of six players at scheduled time, they will receive a ten minute grace period which will result in a two minute delay of game penalty. If after ten minutes team does not have six players that team will forfeit. If a team uses 10 minute grace period that game will be reduced to three – five minute running clock periods.

10. Tie Games – Games that end in a tie during regulation will play a five-minute sudden death overtime period. If the game is still tie after the 5 min overtime there will be a three man shootout.  The visiting team will shoot first and alternate shots.  If the score is still tie after three shooters from each team there will be a sudden death shootout. Each team will receive one point for the tie and the wining team from the shootout will get an additional point.  Playoff ties will be fifteen minute running clock overtime periods.

11. Cancelled Games – The only reason for a scheduled game to be cancelled is due to weather or league committee. If a team does not have enough players for a scheduled game, that team must notify Jim Fox by the Friday before the game (A 5:00pm deadline). If that team has a minimum of 11 players that will be able to make the game, the team must play the game. Each team will only be able to reschedule TWO games due to shortage of players. If a game has to be reschedule the teams have a two week period to play the game. If the game is not played within two weeks, neither team will receive any points nor will the game be played.

12. Post game handshake – All players are expected to shake hands with opposing team members at the end of each game.

13. Drinking / Drug Violation – Anyone known to be drinking or using drugs, can be disqualified from the league for the remainder of the season or suspended for a game/games. Committee to decide.

NOTE: A player’s previous history will be used when assigning suspensions.

14. Timeouts – Each team is permitted on 30 second timeout per game. One timeout for overtime.

15. Off sides – Floating blue line is in effect for off sides.

16. Icing – Icing is a no touch icing. The defending top hash marks are in effect for icing.

17. Playoff series – Playoff series for 2005-2006 season will be best of three and finals will be the best of five..  (Time and dates to be decided).

18. Penalties one - Any player receiving penalties adding up to equal six minutes or more will be ejected from that game and possible be suspended from future games. (Examples: 1) 3 two minute minors, 2) 1 five minute major and 1 two minute minor)

19. Penalties two - Any player receiving a total of twenty five minutes of penalties during the course of the season will receive a one game suspension. Any player receiving a total of thirty five penalty minutes will receive a suspension to be determined by committee.

20. Penalties (Game Total) - 15 penalties in one game will not lead to an automatic game stoppage, it will be up to the discretion of the ref's( please be aware that the referee's always have the right to stop a game that they believe is unsafe and getting out of hand)

21. Penalties (High sticking) –

Contacting the ball above shoulder height with a stick will be a two minute penalty. Anything below shoulder is legal.

A high sticking penalty causing blood will be a 5 minute penalty. A slash or high sticking that is intentional will result in a penalty and a suspension to be decided referee and league committee.

22. Penalties (Fighting) –

1st fight, Out of game plus four game suspension.
2nd fight, Out of game plus suspended for calendar year from the date of the offense.

Any fighting call will be reviewed by the committee and suspension.

a. Note: Instigator penalty is in effect and can result in additional penalty. Any punch or punches that are thrown will be considered a fight. Both players do not have to throw a punch to be a fight.

23. Penalties (Checking) – Any type of checking is a penalty (2 or 5 minutes). This is a NO-CHECK league and checking will not be tolerated.  Any check with the intent to injure will receive a five minute major and game misconduct.

a. Any type of checking penalty can result in a league review and a suspension can occur.

24. Match Penalty – Intent to injure will be added to current rules
1st offence - 8 game suspension
2nd offence - suspension for calendar year from data of the offence.

Any intent to injure call will be reviewed by the committee and suspension


25. Penalties (Suspension Appeal) – All penalties and ejections can be reviewed by league committee. All suspensions can be reviewed by league and can be subject to change. Any player can appeal any suspension by filling out an appeal form. Committee will decide final decision along with referee. See coach or captain for appeal information.

26. Suspension, Ejections – A players previous history can be used when assigning any type of league review for suspension and ejections.

27. Hand pass – A hand pass in the defensive zone by the defensive team is legal. Grasping the ball and drop it down with a close fist without changing direction of the ball and play is also legal. Hand pass is legal by defensive team only.

28. Crease violation – A player is not permitted in the goal crease unless ball is in first. A player may receive penalty for crease violation.

29. Leaving the Bench – Any player or players leaving the bench during a fight or altercation will receive penalties and a four game suspension. Coach or captain can receive suspension if this is a reoccurring problem. The three captains are only permitted on rink after whistle has blown and referees have situation under control.

30. 3rd Man In – A 3rd player entering into a fight can result in a 4 game suspension and penalties. To be reviewed by committee.

31. Referee – The referee may hand out penalties for abusive language, verbal abuse toward other players or himself, he may also stop game if he feels it is necessary. To be reviewed by committee.

32. Language (Cursing) – The referee can hand out penalties for cursing (he does not have to give warning) if cursing persist the ref may eject player from game.

33. Leaving penalty box – A player leaving penalty box for any reason while serving a penalty will receive a minimum 4 game suspension.

34. Ten Goal Rule – Any game where there is a ten goal difference that game will end. This rule takes effect at anytime during the game.

35. NHL Rules – We cannot list every rule. Any rule not listed, you should refer to NHL rules.

36. All player must sign and date form stating they have read and understand rules. Any player not returning form will not be eligible to play until form is returned. A liability form must also be signed and returned before eligible to play.

37. Captains/Assistants – Each team must give five names that during the year can be captain or assistants. For each game there will be one captain and two assistants. Arm bands will be used for captain and assistants.
